Do compression stockings improve performance of athletes?

This has long been a hotly debated question with regards to athletes and their dresses. Every year a new fad will come in which will cause the sports community to look for greater what is ethical versus what is unethical. Then comes the questions what the raw athletic prowess will do versus the clothing will do.

There was cycling clothing that came into being and became a fad then came special body hugging swimming costumes and then the compression stockings.
Not to mention the steroids in athletics though it has nothing to do with clothes but yes very very controversial.

The claim to fame of athlete compression socks is that with improved circulation there is less fatigue and hence improved performance. These also claim that since there is compression there are no muscles which are loose and are therefore tightly and snugly fit with the body helping to achieve performance. That is some description that I read for on of the manufactures of these types of socks.

These offer of course the graduated compression which I explained in one of my earlier posts but also there is cushion for absorbing shocks for athletes. This graduated compression starts at the ankle and loosens up till it reached the calf.

The effectiveness of this has been well debated and people are beginning to see athletes with socks till their calf’s which are very much compressed but do the doctors and sports enthusiasts support them is a question that is yet to be answered.

Controversy or no controversy athletes have started wearing them and it is atleast good as it has some cushion in them to prevent damage from the shocks that athletes endure while running.
There are experts who have done study about the effectiveness of these and I will dig up the reference publications and list them here for people to understand and use them based on their needs especially sportsmen looking for athletes compression socks.

Please let me know if you are interested and I will promptly get a link up on my website. pbyservices @ gmail.com
